Sista Karana Association, Kharagpur
|
The West Bengal town of Kharagpur has a thriving Sistakaranam community, the first of whom probably migrated at the turn of the previous century (1890s, 1900s) in search of employment in the then Bengal Nagpur Railway Co. Ltd. which later integrated into India Railways as the South Eastern Railway.
As per reliable sources and some old records, Sistakaranams formed as an association in the year 1920 in the name of “Sistakarana Samajam”. Around the same time, another association in the name of “Utkala Sistakarana Samajam” was also formed in Kharagpur. In 1926, these two associations amalgamated into one with a new name “Utkala Sista Samiti”. This name continued till 1983 when it was changed to “Sista Karana Association” in General Body Meeting held that year.
